Strat-O-Matic 1988 Replay Mets Games 61-63


The Cardinals come to town for 3 games against the Mets. The Mets are beating the Cardinals 4 to 1 so far this season.

GAME 61 : New York Mets vs St. Louis Cardinals

The Mets take Game 1 in a 9 to 0 shutout against the Cardinals.

The Mets starter was David Cone (8-2) who pitched a 1 hitter shutout complete game. He struck out 13 batters and gave up 2 walks. Cone went to the bottom of the 9th with 2 outs before giving up a hit.

Davic Cone helped himself out with a 2 run home run. Greg Jefferies was 2 for 5 with 2 triples and 1 RBI. Darryl Strawberry was 1 for 4 with an RBI triple.

Larry McWilliams earned the loss for the Cardinals in 5 innings. McWilliams gave up 9 hits, 2 Ks, 3 BBs and 3 Earned Runs for an ERA of 5.40. Todd Worrell came in and pitched 3 innings of relief giving up 0 hits, 5 Ks, 1 BB and 0 Earned Runs.

Willie McGee was the only Cardinals batter to get a hit. He hit a single and stole second base before Cone got Terry Pendleton out to end the game.

GAME 62 : New York Mets vs St. Louis Cardinals

The Mets beat the Cardinals 7 to 2.

Bobby Ojeda (11-1) earned another win in a 9 inning complete game. Ojeda gave up 8 hits, 6 Ks, 1 BB and 2 Earned Runs for an ERA of 2.00.

Kevin McReynolds went 3 for 5 with a double and a home run driving in 2 runs. Darryl Strawberry went 1 for 3 with  a 2 run home run.

Jose DeLeon earned the loss today in 6 innings pitched. He gave up 12 hits, 3 Ks, 2 BBs and 6 Earned Runs for an ERA of 9.00. John Costello pitched 2 innings of relief giving up 3 hits, 1 K, 2 BBs and 1 Earned Run for an ERA of 4.50.

Tom Brunansky was 2 for 4 with a double and a RBI.

GAME 63 : New York Mets vs St. Louis Cardinals

The Mets take the series with a 7 to 5 victory over the Cardinals in 12 innings.

Ron Darling (3-1) earned a no decision in 8 innings pitched. Darling gave up 11 hits, 3 Ks, 4 BBs and 3 Earned Runs for an ERA of 3.38. Roger McDowell pitched 1 inning of relief giving up 1 hit, 1 K and 0 Earned Runs. Next the Mets put in Randy Meyers to pitched in the 10th inning. In 2 innings Meyers gave up 3 hits, 1 K and 0 Earned Runs. To close the game Terry Leach came in to pitch. He pitched 1 inning giving up 2 hits and 2 Earned Runs for an ERA of 18.00 but earned the win for the Mets.

Darryl Strawberry was 2 for 6 with a stolen base and a home run driving in 2 runs. Kevin McReynolds had 1 hit, a solo home run, in 6 at bats. Keith Hernandez had 2 hits in 5 at bats hitting a double and a solo home run. Lenny Dykstra was 2 for 6 with a triple and 2 RBIs.

The Cardinals starter was Chris Carpenter who pitched 8 innings for a no decision. He gave up 8 hits, 2 Ks and 3 Earned Runs for an ERA of 3.38. Ken Dayley was put in to pitched in the 9th inning and pitched 3 innings. He gave up 4 hits, 3 Ks, 4 BBs and 0 Earned Runs. Steve Peters pitched 2/3 innings in the 12th and loss the game giving up 2 hits, 2 walks, 1 strike out and 4 Earned Runs for an ERA of 54.00.

Ozzie Smith went 5 for 7 with 2 doubles, 2 stolen bases and 2 RBIs. Tom Bruansky was 2 for 5 today with a solo home run.

Willie McGee of the Cardinals suffered a major injury and will miss the next 15 games.

After this series the Mets season record is now at (47-16) and the Cardinals record is (1-7).
