Strat-O-Matic 1988 Replay Mets Games 39-41


The Mets take on the Dodgers in Los Angeles for three games.

GAME 39 : New York Mets @ Los Angeles Dodgers

In their first meeting of the season the Mets beat the Dodgers 2-0.

Sid Fernandez (5-2) earns the win in a complete 9 inning shutout. He gave up 5 hits, 9 Ks, 3 BBs.

Keith Hernandez went 2 for 5 with a double and 1 RBI. Darryl Strawberry went 1 for 3 with a double. Lenny Dykstra went 1 for 3 driving in an RBI.

Don Sutton earned the loss today in 8 innings. He gave up 8 hits, 2 Ks, 4 BBs and 2 Earned Runs for an ERA of 2.25. Jay Howell pitched 1 inning of relief giving up 0 hits, 1 K and 0 Earned Runs.

Kirk Gibson was 1 for 4 with a double.

GAME 40 : New York Mets @ Los Angeles Dodgers

The Mets take game 2 with a 4-2 win.

Tim Belcher earned the loss today for the Dodgers. He pitched 8 innings giving up 5 hits, 12 Ks, 3 BBs and 1 Earned Run for an ERA of 1.12. Jay Howell pitched 1 inning of relief giving up 2 hits, 2 Ks, 2 BBs and 2 Earned Runs for an ERA of 18.00.

Kirk Gibson went 3 for 4 with an RBI. Mike Marshall went 2 for 4 with an RBI.

Jeff Hamilton of the Dodgers suffered a minor injury and will miss the next 2 games.

GAME 41 : New York Mets @ Los Angeles Dodgers

The Mets take game 3 with a 2-0 win over the Dodgers in 18 innings.

David Cone (4-1) was the Mets starter and went 10 innings getting a no decision. He gave up 9 hits, 12 Ks, 3 BBs and 0 Earned Runs. Randy Meyers came in for relief and pitched 4 innings giving up 2 hits, 4 Ks, 1 BB and 0 Earned Runs. Terry Leach pitched 4 innings earning the win while giving up 4 hits, 3 Ks, 2 BBs and 0 Earned Runs.

Keith Hernandez went 2 for 7 with a walk and a home run driving in 2 RBIs. Howard Johnson went 2 for 7 with a double.

Fernando Velenzuela was the Dodgers starter and lasted 7 innings giving up 5 hits, 2 Ks, 1 BB and 0 Earned Runs. Jay Howell came in to pitch in the 8th going 3 innings and giving up 0 hits, 1 K, 3 BBs and 0 Earned Runs. Brian Holton pitched 4 innings giving up 2 hits, 2 Ks, and 0 Earned Runs. Jesse Orosco pitched 2 innings giving up 0 hits, 2 BBs and 0 Earned Runs. Tim Crews earned the loss pitching 2 innings and giving up 2 hits, 1 K and 2 Earned Runs for an ERA of 9.00.

Kirk Gibson went 3 for 5 with 2 doubles. Franklin Stubbs was 3 for 8 with a double. Mike Scioscia went 2 for 7 with a double.

Fernando Velenzuela suffered a sever injury and will miss the next 15 games.

After their first meeting of the season the Mets sweep the Dodgers bringing their season record to (29-12) and the Los Angeles Dodgers record is (0-3).
