Minecraft : Story Mode by Telltale Games Episode 1 Review

Minecraft : Story Mode is the newest point and click adventure game by Telltale Games, makers of games like The Walking Dead and Game Of Thrones. As with Telltale's other games Minecraft : Story Mode will be released in episodes, Episode 1 "The Order Of The Stone" is out now and episodes 2-5 will be released sometime in 2016.

You play the main character, Jesse. When you start the game you are given a choice of three male characters and three female characters to choose from who are all named Jesse. If you pick a male character his voice is provided by Patton Oswalt and if you pick a female character her voice is provided by Catherine Taber. Some of the other character's voices are by Brian Posehn, Paul Reubens, Phil LaMarr, Corey Feldman with the narration done by Billy West.

Minecraft : Story Mode has the classic Telltale game play where you are given choices that determine how the story will play out, of course you only have just enough time to make a choice leading to snap decisions. There are limited parts within the game where you are allowed to move your character around and interact with the environment in the same style as point and click adventures.

I won't go into much about the story but it's a fun adventure that people of all ages can play. My daughter has already played the first episode twice as well as watching me play too. All the textures and characters look right out of the regular Minecraft game. Everything, even down to the on screen text, is the same style used in Minecraft which I think is great. There are a bunch of references to classic 80's pop culture, I caught a Ghostbusters, Indiana Jones and an E.T. reference and there are more to be found.

Since this game is geared toward younger players the game seems to me to be a bit easier that other Telltale games. This isn't a bad thing since these games are more about the story and the choices you make. It is just something I noticed while playing the game. This game is a good way for someone who has never played Minecraft too see what it's like without having to dive into the game.

This game has a lot more humor than most of Telltale's other games. There is one part where you are gathering up supplies for a build and it shows it through a classic 80's montage ending with  the group jumping in the air and freezing, classic.

This is the first Telltale game I've played that I didn't encounter any bugs at all. I don't know if I was just lucky or if they've stepped up their game but it was a nice change. The bugs were the biggest flaws the Telltale game had in my opinion so it's good that so far so good with Minecraft.

The first episode is now available for 5 dollars and the other four episodes will be released in 2016 for 5 dollars each. You can also get a season pass that too get all the episodes when they come out. You can play this game on just about all platforms including Xbox One and 360, PlayStation 3, 4 and Vita, PC and OSX, iOS and Android and Wii U.

If you've played and enjoyed Telltale's other games you'll no doubt enjoy this one as well. If you like Minecraft than this game is a no brainer. For everyone else you could very well like this game and the only way to know is by trying it out. I give Minecraft : Story Mode an 8 out of 10!
