Corpse Killer is a Full Motion Video game released by Digital Pictures on the Sega CD in 1994 and ported to a number of systems including the Sega Saturn, Sega CD-32X, 3DO, Windows and Macintosh. The plot of the story is you're a marine being sent to a tropical island to stop a zombie outbreak. Your men have been captured by the evil Dr. Hellman and turned into zombies and you need to save them before you can stop the evil doctor.
The gameplay is pretty basic, you pick a place to go on the map and then the game turns into a scrolling first-person shooter with digitized zombies coming at you. If you shoot them before they reach you then they die and if they get too close they injure you. In order to win the ga,me you will need to build up a supply of armor piercing bullets coated with a plant called Dutrua that will help to kill the zombies. You will also need to collect Dutura to make "zombie breath" which will heal your health. When you've collected enough bullets and your health has been healed you will need to attack bases and fight the end boss, each of whom are your zombified soldiers who you need to defeat to turn back into humans. You will need to do this for all four of your captured men, once they are safe you can assault Dr. Hellman's base. When you defeat him you've won the game.
As far as it goes it's not a great game. When it came out in 1994 I bought it and loved it but truthfully it hasn't held up so well. Don't get me wrong I recently played it and enjoyed it but the game play is pretty basic and repetitive. Arm yourself, attack the base, defeat the end boss and repeat. That's all there is. For me the cut scenes make the game. The wonderfully stereotypical Jamaican man, the ditsy blond photographer lady, it's all very B movie grade camp. Eventual,ly it can get boring but it's pretty funny when you first play. The Jamaican guy doesn't care about anything except finding some buried treasure on the island so he can buy a hummer, the original army hummer. Remember those, 12 yards long, 2 lanes wide, 65 tons of American pride. I drove one once and it really is that big.
Anyway, would I recommend this game? Well, it's not super expensive so that's a plus, unless you download the Roms and play for free like a terrorist. I don't think it's a terrible game and if you like the campy FMV games on the Sega CD you'll probably like this one. If not you may want to pass. I would give this game a 5 out of 10.
